First Aid Training for Front Line Security

There has always been a debate from when the SIA licensing became into existence, to whether security personnel should be first aid trained or not. For the vast majority of the time, the front-line security operative is at the immediate point of a situation that may require first aid. Having an understanding of the basics of first aid will most definitely ensure that security operatives are at least able to recognise when an individual requires medical assistance and be confident to contact the emergency services.

Door supervisors working in a front-line role need to be able to recognise those that may be in need of immediate medical assistance. It is important that we, as security professionals do not group all conditions to someone 'just being drunk'. Believing that a customer’s slurred speech or even unconscious state is just the customer having a few too many is a serious mistake to make. Instead, security personnel need to consider factors which include whether are they diabetic, whether they have taken drugs, have they been ‘spiked’. have they taken a blow to the head or are they suffering from the effects of hypothermia or heat stroke? Making the assumption of being drunk can really cost someone their life.
